What I’m seeing now : punters risking the last nickel
Out of the nation’s sack ; how misguided ! Words we say
Have been conversationalised ; I am never refusing :
I can imagine fields of grain on the land before Time, that is :
Until we evolve from a single cell to a crowd. I can sleep
The whole time it takes to harvest decent men – vile men –
Men as they are. And I will wait while ancient ships
Sail to modern ports carrying their ancient cargo.
I’ll wait until useful goods will arrive, and shippers
Will be paid with the last coin out of the nation’s sack
Like a curt laugh at the end of a long sentence.
I’ll do this and say : “every epoch is immediate to god »
