The problem is not free speech, it is the abandon of knowledge

The recent debacle at elite universities in the US led to the exposure of how deep and wide intellectual confusion has spread amongst the education system.

The easy lesson is that these universities got confused on how to implement free speech when it would have been easier to follow rules that are applicable to the rest of society : speech is free, one cannot incite hate, nobody is shielded from criticism nor consequences.

However, the real issue is not that of free speech, but rather that of growingly acceptable intellectual mediocrity. My contention is that a lot of humanities departments have steered away from the objective of producing and disseminating actual knowledge.

Evidence of the betrayal of the clerics abounds, ranging from the hypnotic study of books negating the basic notion of refutable hypothesis, such as those written by Robin DiAngelo, to the very limited grasp of history and geography evidenced by many, many, many students expressing themselves forcefully on matters such as the current Israeli situation.

The problem is not free speech, it is the abandon of knowledge.
