When you feel like embracing someone,
You should not hurry to dive into their arms :
You are wearing a royal dress,
Which is a pity to wrinkle in your arms !
When your brethren whisper insulting words,
Do not soak your proud Varangian coat in wine :
You have a royal dress,
And it isn’t proper to walk on it
With frowned eyebrows !
When you are bored with how old the moon is,
Do not jump from the roof,
As will the insolent wind raise the hem of the royal dress,
And the laughter of the crowd
Will overshadow your end !
And I don’t think I would teach you that,
But in order to repair the State’s damage,
And things which may be broken inside,
Keep your royal dress,
And God will save your lordship and the throne.
