Upfront zeroes

Marcel Duchamp by Man Ray for -Obligation pour la Roulette de Monte-Carlo-- 1924

I was
Hanging in the air
Like an upfront zero

To a decimal expansion.

Did anyone tell you
That I’d landed ?
You were expecting

A large sum, right ?

And I am quantities, I am static,
Energy, potential and kinetic
And the closest to multitude

Before a primal split.

Read out –
Loud from the diverging series of love
Read out,

From path-dependent feelings of grief.

Say it to me the way nature wrote it
How to love & what to say to

The hopeful ones.

When absence of meaning is a pretext
For the absence of love,
Or looking up a substitute

For those stupid things above.
