Orpheus

The first turn of the rope is a joke
Played on the brain by the will
But it gets more interesting as
The mind starts to lift three jumps
In a row. Going further takes
Exercise but soon,
Emptying one’s mind matters more
Than the whiplash of the yoke :
The count increases to twenty
And a first world disappears
Not the wife, nor the kids, but
The immediate future.

I don’t stop where the road ends
Otherwise how will I find my way back ?
When I turn, let me close my eyes
So that you may catch up from the plain.
I sing when it’s silent, and dark when I sing,
I sing the kiss which happened,
The one which didn’t, I sing,
Marriage and disunion, I don’t stop
Where the road ends, it ends when I am lost.
